Ontario Home Renovation Savings Program
The Ontario Home Renovation Savings Program helps homeowners reduce the cost of upgrading to energy-efficient heating and cooling systems. If you're replacing an older system with a qualifying cold-climate heat pump, you may be eligible for significant rebates.
What Is It?
This program is run by the Ontario government and provides rebates based on the size (rated heating tonnage) of the heat pump system installed. The rebate amount depends on your existing primary heat source.
How Much Can You Get?
| Your Current Heat Source | Rebate Rate | Maximum Rebate |
|---|---|---|
| Enbridge natural gas | $500 per rated ton | Up to $2,000 |
| Electricity, oil, propane, or wood | $1,250 per rated ton | Up to $7,500 |
| Rental heat pump system | $500 per rated ton | Up to $2,000 |
| Ground-source heat pump | — | Up to $12,000 |
Example: A homeowner currently heating with oil installs a 3-ton cold-climate heat pump. That's $1,250 × 3 = $3,750 back in rebates.
